Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Position Summary:
Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a Security Officer. The successful candidate will ensure campus security and safety and provide official presence.
Perform security checks on building and grounds equipment through patrolling and inspecting campus areas.
Complete written reports of routine and unusual events.
Ensure doors are locked and unlocked according to established schedules.
Control and monitor visitors and crowds to prevent acts of vandalism, theft, and misconduct. Inspect premises for unauthorized persons, safety and fire hazards, and unsafe conditions.
Request assistance when needed and report emergency conditions and situations to appropriate authorities.
Answer questions, give directions and explain rules and regulations to students, faculty, staff, and visitors as needed.
Ticket improperly parked vehicles and investigate accidents on campus.
Monitor building climate control systems and lighting equipment for proper operation.
Other duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate: $7.69-$10.56, this is a 29-hour per week hourly wage position with no health benefits.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and maintain a high level of interpersonal skills with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior related experience.
