Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Position Summary:
Patrick Henry Community College is seeking a self-motivated professional and team players to serve as After School Director for the Middle School program. The After School Director performs duties to ensure that the MHC After 3 program delivery meets standards of youth development and grant requirements. The Director will assist in activities including: curricular planning and implementation, efficient and accurate data collection and reporting for grant guidelines, effective daily communication with students, families, school day staff, and the MHCA3 manager. In addition, they will serve as first point of contact for schools, principals, school day teachers, families, and students. Maintaining a positive public image of PHCC and MHCA3 program is essential. Other duties include: conducting daily MHCA3 programs, presentations, evaluation of daily program delivery and community partners and purchased services, student participant recruitment and retention, and planning student and family activities.

This position is funded by a grant and is contingent upon renewal of grant funding.


Salary: Minimum $24,969 based on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to an associate degree in education, human services, art, STEM, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

KSA’s and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work are:


    • Knowledge of 21 Century Community Learning Centers Programs.
    • Knowledge and/or training in Youth Development and/or Human Services/Development.
    • Demonstrated ability to create and manage databases and generate effective and efficient reports for annual performance reports and data management.
    • Applied knowledge of youth development and educational support programs to ensure effective programs and delivery.
    • Experience building community and business partnerships to continue growth of youth development programs and continuation of MHC After 3.
    • Expertise in utilizing word-processing, database management, and presentation software.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and underserved individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, art, STEM, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Youth development or teaching certification.

Considerable knowledge of the college and state policies and procedures as related to MHC After 3
