Job Description

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Law Enforcement Division (LED) is seeking a sworn Senior Special Agent to be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing training activities for the division’s Training Academy.

The incumbent will ensure consistency in trainings conducted and coordinate activities to ensure that all sworn staff personnel meet their mandated DCJS training requirements. Additionally, this position will conduct basic and continuous training of LED personnel, work directly with the DCJS, CCJTA, DMV Workforce Development and other training academies; train sworn and non-sworn DMV personnel, keep up to date documentation/records of all training and expenditures for LED and perform all training duties assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a certified Law Enforcement Officer and General Instructor with Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Possess extensive experience in training new and seasoned law enforcement officers.

Knowledge of the principles of instruction in classroom or field situations.

Experience training curriculum and programs, skilled at giving presentations and maintaining training records.

Must possess experience performing complex/specialized investigations, preparing reports that clear and grammatically correct.

Experience managing a large caseload.

Must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License or be able to obtain one.

Must be proficient in the use of PC, MS Office OS and programs..

Knowledge of defensive tactics, control techniques, use of force and de-escalation tactics.

Ability to develop budget proposals.

Demonstrated professional oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law as well as in any other forum required by job responsibilities.

HS Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or a combination of experience, training and college credits.

Special Requirements

Must comply with statutorily specified minimum qualifications for law enforcement officers (s 15.2-1705, Code of Virginia) including a criminal history records check, a background investigation, and a physical examination.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that reflects a sense of safety and responsibility.

The selected applicant(s) must submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history record check.

The Department of Motor Vehicles participates in E-Verify.
