Job Description

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Law Enforcement Division is seeking a VA DCJS Certified Law Enforcement Officer to serve as the department’s Information Technology Specialist. This position is an advanced law enforcement position that will provide investigative, technical, specialized and complex computer forensic investigation, IT support, research and development and implementation of IT solutions used to enable the investigative processes for general and internal matters related to fraud and/or corruption.

The incumbent will utilize specialized technical skills to recommend and implement applications, products and tools within DMV Law Enforcement to address Enforcement needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Extensive experience conducting sensitive and confidential investigations, intelligence gathering using open web and clandestine resources.

Extensive knowledge of storage devices, operating systems, programming languages, software applications, file formats, software drives, networking, routing network security, and computer forensic tools.

Experience investigating and uncovering evidence of illegal activity conducted via computer (such as fraud, terrorism and hacking).

Experience investigating and uncovering evidence of crimes that were not directly committed via computer but for which the accused might have stored evidence on computer data storage devices.

Possess experience performing complex/specialized investigations,

Experience managing caseload and preparing reports.

Possess experience analyzing complex data searches.

Ability to render credible testimony.

Presentation experience.

HS Diploma or GED.

Possess VA DCJS certification as a law enforcement officer.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in Information Technology or related field.

Special Requirements

Must comply with statutorily specified minimum qualifications for law enforcement officers (s 15.2-1705, Code of Virginia) including a criminal history records check, a background investigation, and a physical examination.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that reflects a sense of safety and responsibility.

Must meet and maintain all federal and Virginia legal qualifications to serve as a law enforcement officer.

The selected applicant(s) must submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. The Department of Motor Vehicles participates in E-Verify. This position requires completion of an Economic Interest Statement.
