Job Description

Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time, credit and non-credit adjunct faculty for Workforce Development.

Workforce Development classes are held in multiple locations including Roanoke (main campus and Goodwill Jobs Campus), Daleville (Greenfield Education & Training Center), Franklin County (Franklin Center) as well as various company locations. Adjuncts must be willing to work in any of these locations and accommodate flexible class schedules.

We are seeking to identify qualified and interested adjunct faculty members particularly, in the following teaching disciplines and/or subject areas:

  • Basic Computers/ Microsoft Office/Microsoft Project/Revit
  • Business Management
  • Contractor/Construction Trades
  • CPR/ First Aid and Safety
  • Digital Photography & Video
  • ESL (English as a Second Language)
  • Finance
  • Health Care Nutrition & Fitness
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • OSHA
  • Manufacturing (Welding/Machining/PLCs/Pneumatics & Hydraulics/Electrical Systems)
  • Pharmacy/Pharmacology
  • Project Management (PMP/Agile/Scrum)
  • Quickbooks
  • Six Sigma
  • Spanish
  • Supervisory Training-Team Building; Goal Setting; Conflict Management; and Communications
  • Web Page Design
  • Other Workforce Development-related disciplines or areas, as needed

Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on an as needed, course-by-course, semester basis. Responsibilities include teaching workforce development courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends, if needed. Faculty is expected to maintain currency and credentials in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college and career/vocational education.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess expert skills, knowledge, experience, credentials and education in the subject area and have a history of successful teaching or related experience.

Depending upon the course, (credit and/or non-credit) positions may require a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline, a Bachelor’s degree with a major in the teaching field and minimum of two years of related occupational experience; or Associate Degree or equivalent in teaching field, or High School diploma or equivalent required and ten (10) years related occupational experience. Additional study in college or special school may substitute for some occupational experience.

All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, ability to write syllabi and exams, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Nationally-recognized, industry credential or Bachelor’s in the teaching field and minimum of two years of related occupational experience and/or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.

Experience with on-line teaching is a plus.

Experience working with Blackboard is a plus.

Special Requirements

Applicants who have degrees earned from educational institutions located outside of the United States are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service prior to applying for Faculty positions. If the transcripts are in a foreign language, applicants also need to have their transcripts translated prior to applying for job opportunities at Virginia Western.

Applicants who have foreign transcripts may submit a copy of their transcript attached to the original transcript evaluation. Applicants are responsible for the costs associated with translation/evaluation services.

Unofficial transcripts may be provided as part of the application process. However, official transcripts are required of the selected candidate.
