Job Description

Provide clinical instruction to small groups of pre-licensure students in dental care facilities while ensuring safe and appropriate patient care. Collaborate as a member of faculty team to implement curriculum and facilitate student success. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and foster a positive learning environment. Evaluate student performance and provide remediation as needed in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective areas. Maintain facility, college, and program policies and expectations. Participate in college, division and program meetings and professional development activities. Submit timely and accurate documentation as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. Completion of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) dental hygiene education program. Unrestricted license to practice as a dental hygienist in Virginia. Minimum of two years of full time work experience as a licensed dental hygienist. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with faculty and students to facilitate positive learning experiences. Commitment to the community college philosophy. Current CPR certification and documentation of all routine healthcare employee immunizations. Flexible schedule to teach daytime clinical courses. Criminal history and other background checks will be required of the finalist candidate for the position. Drug screening may be required. Satisfactory reference and background checks are a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in dental hygiene or dental hygiene education. Extensive clinical experience. Certification and experience administering dental anesthesia. Recent, relevant clinical experience. Previous community college teaching experience. Experience using dental software, digital radiography, and instructional technology.

PLEASE NOTE: The typical hiring range for this position is $746 – $822 per credit hour.
