Job Description

Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI), part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s behavioral health system, is seeking qualified candidates for a clinical psychologist position (Psychologist Senior), to collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing care to persons with a variety of types of mental health needs. SWVMHI is a progressive inpatient facility whose mission is to promote mental health by assisting people in their recovery in the southwestern Virginia region.

The successful candidate will be capable of working collaboratively with other clinical disciplines in a fast-paced treatment environment, where improving the quality of care is viewed as a continual process. SWVMHI seeks an applicant with strong skills in providing psychological assessment, group and individual therapy, and behavioral interventions and consultation. Psychologists play a major role on the treatment team, particularly in risk assessment and risk management. Psychologists also conduct forensic evaluations, and training in this area will be provided. Experience with treatment of serious mental disorders is strongly desired. Entry level professionals with a commitment to assisting individuals in their recovery are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

A doctorate in clinical psychology or documented equivalent and eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia is strongly preferred. Supervision for the year of post-doctorate residency required for Virginia licensure can be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer experience providing psychological services to individuals with severe mental disorder. Prefer experience with forensic mental health issues.

Special Requirements

A fingerprint-based criminal history check along with a check with the Department of Social Services/Child Protective Services and drug testing (for safety-sensitive positions) will be conducted on finalist candidate for positions.
