This position provides academic counseling support for up to 29 hours per week, with schedule to vary based on high traffic times, and is predominantly located at Daniel Technology Center in Culpeper. Duties include assisting with advising for new and undecided students; and counseling students on academic plans and career goal development. DTC Counselor will provide academic counseling support to special programs offered through the DTC such as the Germanna Scholars Dual Enrollment program. Counselor will intervene with retention and persistence strategies, helping enrolled students who are referred for help with concerns affecting their academic success.
Master’s degree in Counseling or closely related area. Strong educational counseling skills. Ability to help students problem solve, develop academic and career goals. Ability to help students develop persistence and self-empowerment skills to overcome obstacles and to be successful in college. Professional written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Experience in a community college higher education setting. Experience working with adults on academic planning, personal development and career goal setting.
