Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Position Summary:
PHCC is seeking a full-time nursing and health faculty member. Instructional assignments include classroom, laboratory, and the clinical setting. Full-time faculty are required to teach 12-15 credit hours per semester, and may be required to teach various courses within the designated discipline/field of study. Full-time faculty members also will serve as faculty advisors, serve on department/division/campus/college committees, participate in curriculum development, and other responsibilities as assigned. The nursing program is an approved Virginia Board of Nursing educational program and hence complies with all Regulations for Nursing Education Programs 18 VAC 90-27-10 et seq.

Primary responsibilities involve teaching and student advisement. Teaching schedules normally include day and evening classes and may include weekend and/or off-campus work. Additional responsibilities include such duties as promoting the program, office hours, committee work, course and curriculum planning, coordinate lab and field experience by planning and evaluating the practical learning experience of the students, and mentoring adjunct faculty. In addition, candidates must work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse educational environment, as well as facilitate student learning through in-class and out-of-class activities. The successful candidate must be willing to work day and evening hours as needed on any of the PHCC campuses, including dual enrollment at local high schools. The incorporation of computers and other technologies is expected in instruction methods. The teaching field will involve the field of Psychology and Human Services.


This is a 9-month teaching faculty position beginning August 16, 2017.

Expected Hiring Range: $48,876-$70,000 plus excellent benefits package; salary is dependent upon education and experience

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must hold an unencumbered, current Virginia Registered Nursing license with multi-state licensure privilege, a Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, and two years of related nursing/occupational experience is required. Candidate should be familiar with utilizing computer and other technologies for instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous community college or college teaching experience in the nursing field including classroom, and clinical settings. Experience with curriculum development and with learning management systems such as Blackboard. Experience with nationally recognized nursing education accreditation processes and standards.

Special Requirements

Selected applicant must pass a criminal records background check. Nursing faculty are required to maintain current American Heart Association BLS certification, receive yearly Tuberculosis screening, and provide proof of current immunizations.
