Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Position Summary:
Patrick Henry Community College is seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual for the position of IT Specialist II. This position provides planning, implementation and support for information technology equipment and systems that are interconnected to other campus and VCCS systems. This position is responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware and software at on-campus and off-campus sites, planning and scheduling computer upgrades, maintenance of networked labs, and support for the Information Technology department on specialized projects. Responsibilities also include support of the campus enterprise security suite and document imaging system.

In addition, assists Senior Network Administrator with:

• Planning, Implementation, maintenance, and coordination of campus networks
• Managing local area network on the main campus and the remote learning sites, including administration of network servers and desktop computers, peripherals, wiring and all components of the network environment
• Configuration and installation of physical and virtual servers
• Troubleshooting network hardware and software problems
• Maintaining on-campus faculty, staff, and lab desktop computers

Minimum Salary: $42,614, based on qualifications and experience; plus excellent benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to an Bachelor’s Degree in a related area that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job is required.

Experience with desktop computer hardware and software support.

KSA’s and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:
•In-depth understanding of networking and desktop computing technologies, as applied in a community college environment for the purpose of maximizing efficiency and effectiveness in the classrooms and administrative offices.
•Strong computer literacy skills and experience in Microsoft networking, Cisco infrastructure, and desktop computing.
•Good grammar and communication skills.
•Ability to work on complex projects involving network components and infrastructure to ensure security, access, uninterrupted service and integration of new technologies.
•Ability to apply and deliver technologies in emerging fields.

Preferred Qualifications

A+ Certification, CompTIA, Cisco, and/or Microsoft certifications preferred.

Workshops in Microsoft Office, Windows Server Administration, and
computer repair are preferred
