Job Description

The Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC) seeks a part-time individual to provide and promote VDOT Library services to employees in all VDOT divisions and districts statewide; duties will include circulation, conducting literature searches, answering simple reference questions, and document delivery. This is an hourly/wage position and is limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period. This position is not eligible for State benefits.

Additional positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong customer service skills; library and/or research experience; knowledge of library functions; knowledge of internet search tools and effective search techniques; ability to work well as a team member and independently, with initiative and sound judgment; ability to perform work with accuracy and perseverance; experience with Microsoft Office Suite; excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication and presentation skills; experience using technology to support innovative library practices and/or enhancements in library productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with one or more of the following a plus: SpringShare library software (LibChat, LibAnswers, LibGuides); EOS Integrated Library System; working knowledge of reference theory and tools; experience promoting or marketing library services; experience with technical or transportation- specific databases. MLS/ MIS degree or coursework a plus. College degree or comparable education and experience to perform the duties of the position.

Special Requirements

This is an hourly/wage position and is limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period. This position is not eligible for benefits. Criminal History Background Check that includes fingerprinting is required, DMV Record Check is required.
