Job Description

This position is located at the Academy for Staff Development in Crozier, Virginia.

Supports the Department of Corrections (VADOC) and Academy for Staff Development’s (ASD) mission, goals, and objectives by ensuring the provision of high quality, effective, work-related training, career, and organizational development services.

Provides journey level repair, maintenance, and service of HVAC systems by supervising and assigning work according to building codes and standards. install, maintain, and repair facility HVAC and refrigeration systems including systems controlled by automated building control systems and electronic control modules. Conducts routine inspections. Purchases supplies for mechanical, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical systems, and building maintenance. May supervise offender work crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Performs various other maintenance services to maintain the integrity of the existing structures and furnishings, and meet the needs of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Working knowledge of the installation, repair, and maintenance practices for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Working knowledge of the equipment and material used in skilled trades including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC and grounds keeping. Skill in the use of hand and power tools and other equipment to complete work assignments. Knowledge of related governmental codes and standards relating to the trade. Ability to keep narrative and statistical records relating to the maintenance and repair of equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer training, certification, or licensure in related trades. Prefer progressively responsible experience in one or more trades specialties; to include supervisory and leadership responsibilities. Prefer knowledge in web based HVAC control systems. Prefer EPA Type 1 and Type 2 CFC refrigeration license. Prefer knowledge in VAV boxes and controllers. Prefer knowledge in mini-split system, split systems, and package units.
