Job Description

Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position for Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry in the School of Business, Technology and Trades for the Fall 2017 academic semester.

Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed and based on enrollment. Responsibilities include teaching developmental and/or college-level courses, on- and off-campus courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the minimum of a Bachelor’s in Culinary Arts or an Associates’ degree in Culinary Arts with demonstrated competency in baking and pastry or culinary arts positions. In addition to the degree, two years’ occupational experience in the culinary or baking field are required. Possession of a current ACF Certified Executive Chef or Certified Executive Pastry Chef credential along with three years of occupational experience in a culinary position supervising at least three full-time employees will substitute for the degree.

All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, experience writing syllabi and exams, as well as the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Applicants who have degrees earned from educational institutions located outside of the United States are required to have their transcripts evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service prior to applying for Faculty positions. If the transcripts are in a foreign language, applicants also need to have their transcripts translated prior to applying for job opportunities at Virginia Western.

Applicants who have foreign transcripts may submit a copy of their transcript attached to the original transcript evaluation. Applicants are responsible for the costs associated with translation/evaluation services.
