Job Description

- Assess, develop, update, and deliver curriculum for adult learners in preparatory courses for EMS certification in a manner leading to cognitive development, clinical psychomotor skill competence, enhanced affective interaction, and marketable job skill proficiency appropriate for the provider level of each assigned course.

- Evaluate student cognitive, psychomotor, and affective development on a strategically scheduled, periodic basis throughout each course; provide evaluation results to students and program director in a manner which serves as a guide to improved performance. Conduct final assessment of student performance in the above domains and submit final grade reports for each assigned course.

- Work cooperatively with students, other faculty, and staff members of PDCCC and cooperating agencies in planning and implementing clinical experiences.

- Supervise students in clinical settings to ensure safety and constant compliance with college, regulatory agency, and facility requirements while maximizing learning opportunities.

- Work with other faculty and staff members to facilitate the operation of the health simulation labs in a manner which maximizes learning opportunities.

- Maintain continuous contact with businesses and industries throughout the district which employ or could employ graduating students. Provide colleagues with information learned regarding new techniques or equipment which could be implemented in the EMS program as well as employment opportunities for graduating students.

- Abide by all VCCS, institutional, and EMS policies and procedures; assist administration in implementing all policies and procedures governing student conduct.

- Maintain membership in EMS professional organizations and actively support community EMS development and development of the PDCCC EMS program.

- Maintain personal EMS certifications and familiarity with current evidence-based EMS practice guidelines and research initiatives.

- Maintain active, positive civic engagement.

- Attend faculty and staff meetings called by the EMS Program Director or Dean of Nursing and Allied Health.

- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and closely monitor use of inventory items to prevent loss, damage, or theft.

- Assist in maintaining up-to-date durable equipment in the program for relevant training of students.

- Attend college EMS advisory board meetings and provide input about the relevance of curriculum and equipment utilized in the program in a manner leading toward continuous quality improvement.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Current certification as an EMT-Intermediate or higher by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Two years clinical or field experience as an ALS provider. Documented experience teaching EMS curricula to adult learners. Current CPR Instructor Certification. Current ACLS Instructor Certification. Current PALS Instructor Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Current certification as an EMT-Paramedic by the Virginia Office of EMS. Current certification as an Education Coordinator by the Virginia Office of EMS. At least two years clinical and field experience as an ALS provider. Prior community college teaching experience. Prior experience developing EMS course curricula. Prior experience serving as lead instructor for CPR, ACLS, and PALS courses.
