Job Description

The College Success/Great Expectations Coach works extensively with underserved college student populations to support and enhance student success. The position will focus on coaching services for students in STEM-H and occupational/ technical (OT) programs, and will also provide support to foster youth to help them complete high school, gain access to a community college education and transition successfully from the foster care system to living independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human resources, social services, adult education or a relevant field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent applicable experience or training. Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support, and motivate students. Ability to develop individualized academic plans and provide other coaching services to students, especially students in STEM-H (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, nursing and allied health) or occupational/technical programs, that will lead to program completion. Ability to work with students with identified risk factors for academic success. Ability to work with PDCCC’s College Success Coach Initiative team, and other college staff and faculty in support of student success. Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media platforms, and sufficient technological skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources. Strong oral and written communications skills. Strong presentation and facilitation skills. Must be able to work at all campus locations. Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in counseling or academic coaching preferred. Knowledge of community and college resources. Work experience with programs or services for STEM-H and OT students. Knowledge of foster youth programs. Experience with career assessment, financial aid policies and procedures, and/or the Virginia Community College System policies and procedures. Experience with PeopleSoft or other Student Information Systems.
