Job Description

Paul D. Camp Community College is seeking an innovative and enterprising Coordinator of Library Services. This a 12 month Administrative/Professional (A/P) Faculty appointment. The primary functions of the role include, but are not limited to, planning, coordinating, managing and supervising all Library Learning Commons service components including programs, staff, collections, and budgets.

The Coordinator plans, coordinates, and supervises the daily operations of the library and directs all library activities for the college including reference and information, circulation, periodicals, and the media. The coordinator is responsible for electronic and print collection development, evaluates current services, and recommends changes in library policy and procedures. The Coordinator develops and supervises the assigned budget allocation and evaluates, recommends, and selects equipment and materials in direct support of curricular needs. The Coordinator serves as a liaison with faculty, staff and the community regarding library services and use of facilities and materials. The coordinator works closely with senior administration, deans, and faculty to support and improve student learning and student success.

The core responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:

• Manage all library programs and services, including reference, circulation, collection development, licensing, copyright, technical services, and interlibrary loan
• Ensure library programs and services are accessible to students at all locations (Franklin, Suffolk, Center at Smithfield, off-campus instructional sites including dual enrollment) and online
• Supervise, evaluate, and schedule all library personnel; assign duties and responsibilities; plan staff development activities; and conduct periodic formal evaluation of all part-time and full-time personnel
• Assess effectiveness of library programs and services, and develop and implement plans for continuous improvement
• Manage library budget
• Participate in negotiation of contracts for electronic resources and other services
• Develop outreach programs and activities; liaison with faculty to develop and pilot new services
• Provide leadership for integration and assessment of Information Literacy in academic programs
• In collaboration with Institutional Advancement, develop and oversee marketing plan for Library Learning Commons
• Evaluate and analyze both print and electronic collections; perform collection development and weeding projects
• Oversee the acquisition and receipt of purchased library materials and gifts
• Provide reference, education, and outreach services to PDCCC students, faculty and staff
• Promote the library internally and through participation in consortia and state projects; establish and maintain cooperative agreements between the college and area libraries
• Formulate general library policies and procedures and recommend to the Vice President of Academics and Student Development (VP, ASD) plans for improving or modifying library services
• Serve on college, Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and state committees and participate in VCCS peer group and professional development.
• Support the college’s mission, including its focus on teaching and learning

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or Master’s Degree in Library and Information Systems (MLIS) from an American Library Associate (ALA) accredited institution, or equivalent education, to include a master’s degree, and experience related to performance of duties and responsibilities of the position
• Demonstrated ability to manage budget, equipment, and other institutional resources
• Administrative experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills
• Superior customer service skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of emerging technologies in library service
• Proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to tolerate and flourish in an environment characterized by multiple complex factors, competing priorities, ambiguous situations, and resource challenges
• Ability to build a highly effective working team
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and philosophy
• Ability to interpret and apply college policies and procedures
• Knowledge of and ability to utilize administrative applications of information technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a community college setting
• Leadership, management, supervision of staff in higher education setting
