Job Description

Supports the Unit by managing inmate fund accounts through receipt, disbursement and maintenance of funds and the processing of Inmate Trust System in accordance with recognized accounting practices and departmental and institutional regulations and laws. Balancing Inmate Trust Fund daily, reconciling all bank statements and trust transactions. Process end of month reports. Also assists in preparation of processing Unit invoices for payment in accordance with established polices. accounting practices and departmental
Provides fiscal support to the Unit with emphasis on offender trust accounts. Processes, reviews, and analyzes a range of data to ensure accuracy and compliance with established procedures. Performs technical fiscal and accounting duties by preparing and maintaining fiscal records and reports. Ensures all accounting transactions are completed in accordance with Department of Corrections and Department of Accounts policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in an accounting/bookkeeping setting and performing detailed work with numerical data and mathematical calculations. Recent working knowledge of office procedures, data entry, and record maintenance. Recent experience using basic office equipment including the operation of a 10-key calculator. Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel/Spreadsheets. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and guidelines. The ability to resolve problems and make recommendations for improvements and exercise independent judgement is needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal education in accounting principals. Preferred knowledge in accounting/bookkeeping principles and practices, computer usage and keyboarding Prefer working knowledge of State Financial Programs including CARDINAL, FAACS, Offender Trust, and Offender Pay. Prefer knowledge of State travel policies. Experience in an accounting related field and computer skills.
