Job Description

Jamestown Yorktown Foundation is seeking a qualified applicant to manage merchandise selection and product development in manner to best balance appropriateness to mission and salability, to enhance guest experience by sourcing and offering relevant products with best value connotation, to efficiently manage the $1.2M shop inventory investment by applying financial controls to maximize turnover and reduce unproductive inventory for multiple gift shop locations and to provide product content for e-commerce site.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of retail merchandising and the process of development of new and innovative products. Network of domestic and international vendors and sources.
Skill in the use of computerized inventory management system and reports.
Demonstrated ability to understand strategic plan and diagram initiatives to achieve objectives. Ability to motivate staff, to communicate a vision of staff responsibilities and their relation to the Foundation mission, and the ability to successfully deal with a variety of projects simultaneously.
College degree required, with field of study in business, marketing, merchandising or related field. At least five years’ experience as a buyer or product manager in a similar high pressure multi-channel specialty retail environment. Proficient with Excel and merchandise management systems. Additional experience may be substituted for college degree.

Special Requirements

All full-time and part-time paid staff of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is required to complete and sign an Application for Employment. These documents require an employee to certify that they have never been convicted for any type of violation. This is above and beyond VA Code §22.1-296.1-C which states “that (i) he has not been convicted of a felony or any offense involving the sexual molestation or physical or sexual abuse or rape of a child; and (ii) whether he has been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.” In addition, the Foundation completes both name and sex registry background checks through Virginia State Police on all paid and core volunteer staff and the Contractor will (i) maintain all employee certifications on file, (ii) require an employee to update the employee’s certification if the employee later is convicted of any reportable offense, and (iii) will make these certifications available to FCPS for inspection upon request.” Foundation staff must also be eligible to work using the E-Verify system through U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
