Job Description

Central State Hospital, a 270 bed, JCAHO accredited, public, psychiatric facility houses the only Maximum-Security Forensic Program in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is seeking a part-time clinical psychologist to complete forensic and psychological evaluations that are of high quality and comport with court orders. This individual will prepare written reports for the court, primarily regarding individuals found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, and consult with attorneys as necessary. The incumbent will also perform evaluations of a psychological nature when requested.

The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled and experienced clinical psychologists in serving with the Forensic Evaluation Team as a temporary part-time evaluator.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be licensed in Clinical Psychology in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Requires a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or related field in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must have training/experience in forensic assessment and be capable of operating as an autonomous forensic evaluator with minimal supervision.
Requires knowledge and experience in the area of clinical assessment, report writing and consultation relevant to forensic evaluations.
Incumbent demonstrates competence and knowledge in psychopathology, personality theory and the assessment process. Able to present/testify well in court.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal, oral and writing skills preferred.

An extensive criminal history background investigation, employment references and drug testing will be conducted.
