Job Description

Virginia Western Community College is currently accepting applications for a part-time, Administrative Assistant in the Culinary Arts Program. This position provides security of buildings and acts as primary, initial contact for all visitors to Claude Moore Complex to include faculty, students, delivery personnel, etc. Additionally this position provides assistance to faculty along with procurement, inventory and proper food rotation support to the Culinary Arts Program to include: purchasing food, paper, chemicals and supplies; managing the receipt, storage and rotation of food and items ordered; maintaining inventory and monitoring costs; following state procurement policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience purchasing and managing inventory, proper food rotation and office management. Excellent organizational, oral and written communications, as well as computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Excel & Word, internet navigation skills and web-based software). Successful experience balancing multiple tasks and prioritizing work. Experience with basic office equipment. Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation and general physical kitchen cleaning and sanitizing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Food service experience preferred, ideally in the areas of purchasing and/or inventory. Experience working in a college setting and knowledge of Commonwealth of VA Department of Accounts purchasing policies and procedures is preferred. Degree or educational coursework in the culinary arts field.

Special Requirements

This is a part-time position, limited to working up to 29 hours per week.

Selected applicant will be subject to a background check of driving, credit, and criminal history as a condition of employment.

No traditional benefits are provided; however, the individual is eligible to participate in the College’s Educational and Continuous Learning Policy which provides for educational assistance for up to six credit hours per semester.
