Job Description

Rappahannock Community College (RCC) invites applications for High School Career Coach # H0032. Reporting to the college recruiter and dual enrollment advisor, the high school career coach will promote college and career readiness by arranging campus visits to RCC, promoting RCC’s programs and career pathways, and informing students about careers in the region. This position is located at Gloucester High School and is a part time, approximately 26 hours a week, not to exceed 29 hours.

The primary goal of the career coach is to increase the percentage of high school students who participate in dual enrollment programs and then successfully transition to college education or workforce training. This career coach will target high school students who most need career planning services and will help students in recognizing community college opportunities and ensuring a seamless transition to postsecondary certificates and degrees in addition to apprenticeships and workforce training. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week that may include evenings, and travel to and from campuses and employer partners in our service region for outreach services and follow up services. The position will begin September 2017 and end June 2018.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field or the equivalent in education, training and experience. Understanding and use of current educational practices in career counseling. Ability to work cooperatively as member of a team and in a professional manner. Ability to organize activities and coordinate activities for career and college exploration. Ability to relate to diverse individuals. Ability to communicate effectively (writing, listening, speaking). Ability to work independently and follow-through on assigned tasks. Ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and manage conflict. Ability to use a computer in an office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education or related field.

Satisfactory reference and criminal background checks are a condition of employment. The position will begin September 2017 and end June 2018.
