Job Description

The Virginia Department of Education, Office of School Improvement is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to provide accurate interpretation of regulations, and technical information and services to local school divisions and the public regarding federal accountability requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of public education, school reform initiatives to address students learning, and of issues, trends and best practices in the area of division- and school-level support for low-performing schools.

Knowledge of school curriculum and instruction, school and division improvement planning, and program evaluation.

Comprehensive knowledge of the federal legislation and Virginia’s education reform efforts.

Skills in research evaluation, evaluating instructional learning techniques, and project and budget management.

Skills with a variety of software or productivity packages including, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Internet Explorer.

Demonstrate the ability to use school and division data to drive instruction, implement new instructional programs, and evaluate and modify division practices that support school improvement.

Demonstrate the ability to define problems and apply problem-solving techniques to complex educational issues, to work collaboratively with colleagues, to manage multiple assignments, and present complex information to professional and lay audiences.

Ability to execute and manage initiatives affecting planned change in schools and school divisions.

Graduation from an accredited college or university

Preferred Qualifications

An advanced degree in education, education administration or a related field preferred.

Experience at an administrative level preferred.

Special Requirements

Successful candidate must pass a criminal background check.
