Job Description

The Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) at the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services assists individuals with disabilities to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinated service delivery. We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Employment Services Specialist Senior in our Norton office.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Rehabilitation Counselor, the incumbent in this position will provide case management assistance which result in consumer employment and enhanced independent living; assist with job development and job placement; assist consumers with developing resumes, completing applications, and preparing for interviews; conduct job seeking/retention skills training within established guidelines and requested time frames, clearly documenting purposes and outcomes of the sessions; alert counselors to job opportunities for customers in a timely manner; maintain comprehensive and up-to-date job and labor market information readily available for all staff and customers; follow-up with customers on the job in accordance with agency policies and procedures; schedule and coordinate consumer services, including transportation; obtain information about consumer progress in the program; conduct home visits and training/worksite visits and operate the Employment Resource Center with the focus on job search and placement services.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated experience or education with the methods and tools for career & employment services and exploration. Demonstrated experience or education assisting individuals with developing resumes, completing applications, and preparing for interviews. Demonstrated experience or education with job development and job placement. Demonstrated ability to creatively partner with other community organizations. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities. Demonstrated experience or education of ADA compliance requirements. Demonstrated skill and experience using Microsoft office products and other computer software.

Preferred Qualifications

Training or experience in a human service delivery environment; Workforce experience and Workforce Development Professional Certification or Business and Employer Services Certification preferred.
