Assistant Coach, Men’s Baseball
Athletics
Full-Time, Administrative and Professional Faculty, Exempt Position #GA336

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Men’s Baseball. The successful candidate will be under the supervision and mentorship of the head coach for Men’s Baseball. The position will assist in the instruction, scouting, recruiting and/or coaching of student athletes in the fundamentals of baseball by demonstrating techniques and methods necessary for success during collegiate competition; complying with NCAA and Big South Conference rules and regulations; evaluating student athletes’ strengths and weaknesses to improve techniques in order to be successful on and off the field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coaching knowledge and technique – Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge base in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles. Must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions
• Recruiting – scout, identify, and recommend student athletes in such a manner that encourages diversity, while maintaining a competitive team
• Academic success of student athletes – monitor the academic progress of student athletes and assist in ensuring academic success
• Rules compliance – manages the baseball program in full compliance with NCAA and Big South Conference rules and regulations, Commonwealth of VA laws, Longwood University and the Athletics Department policies and procedures
• Community and university involvement – perform public relations functions promoting Longwood athletes in a positive manner to the media, alumni, and community. Work collaboratively with University Advancement to cultivate and promote donor relations to ensure the fund raising efforts are successful

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent training and work experience in higher education setting
•Work experience at a NCAA Division I University is preferred with a minimum of three to five years or more of coaching baseball, or equivalent as a former player at the professional or collegiate level
•Knowledgeable of camp and clinic development programs
•Ability to schedule future games with opposing teams
•Ability to throw “quality” batting practices
•Demonstrated skill in teaching, coaching, and mentoring others
•Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
•Must be able to meet the University eligibility requirements to drive fleet vehicles, including passenger vans and/or mini-buses
•Other administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach of Men’s Baseball
