Job Description

The Virginia Department of Fire Programs is looking for a Financial Services Specialist I who will be based out of the Glen Allen, VA to accurately and promptly research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate employee payables financial transactions in compliance with the Commonwealth’s Accounting Policies and Procedures.

Successful candidate will have to:
Accurately and timely processing of salaried and wage payrolls and travel vouchers in accordance with DHRM, DOA, and DFP Policies and Procedures; the reconciliation of accounting records, updating and implementation of State, Federal and agency regulations, policies and procedures and the resolution of payroll accounting problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the CAPP Manual and related topics.
Advanced knowledge of comprehension of a broad-range of fiscal policies and procedures, especially pertaining to payroll and leave accounting.
Intermediate knowledge of financial management.
Intermediate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Intermediate knowledge of governmental fund accounting and business management.
Knowledge of Commonwealth mandates, laws, rules, regulations, policies & procedures including the CAPP Manual.
Ability to interpret and apply advanced Federal and State level regulations.
Ability to prepare, reconcile, and analyze moderate financial reports.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of staff and management.
Advanced proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and other related programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field strongly preferred, or a combination of either an Associate’s degree or intense study in specific area of expertise and a t least 2 years of relevant experience.
