Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry, Patrick and portions of Franklin. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Position Summary Patrick Henry Community College is seeking energetic, self-motivated individuals to serve as Instructors. MHC After 3 is an educational outreach program that coordinates community youth development resources to advance youth development and increase secondary school student academic success through access to high quality out of school time opportunities. Instructor Leads educational and enrichment programming with small groups middle and high school students participating in MHC After 3. Responsible for designing and delivery of specialized programs in fields such as: visual arts, performing arts, college preparedness, robotics, etc. as well as leading instruction of MHC After 3 programs. Responsible for aligning activities with standards for education in accordance with youth development framework; evaluate and report group outcomes to site directors and program manager. Designs outcomes driven lesson plans; recruit, engage and educate participants; mentor students in a variety of learning and life experiences, and support environments that are safe, healthy, and conducive to student learning. Program specific tasks may be associated with the following subject areas:

  • Academic Subjects Instructor
  • Personal Development Instructor
  • Wellness Instructor
  • Leadership Instructor

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Salary: Minimum $12.00 an hour. These are hourly wage positions with no health benefits. Scheduled work hours will range from 10 to 29-hours per week. Minimum Qualifications: Education, training, and/or work experience in a related field that demonstrates the ability to perform essential functions of the job. KSA’s and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work

  • Ability to design age appropriate curriculum
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer operating systems, data management, spreadsheet, internet and email as well as other applications necessary for specific program delivery
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accurate and timely records, and meet deadlines
  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Preferred Qualifications

    Education, training and/or work experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
