Job Description

The incumbent provides quality nursing care services to residents at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center. Determines level of care needed based on nursing assessment and diagnosis. Supervises the LPN in their nursing practice. Maintains a standard of nursing practice consistent with state and federal laws, VA. Board of Nursing laws, regulations, and guidance documents, and DJJ policies and procedures based on the community standard. Position involves some shift rotation – day, evening, night. Some weekends and holidays are required.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of the principles of professional nursing practice. Demonstrated ability to utilize the nursing assessment, history of present illness, review of symptoms and nursing protocols to make a nursing diagnosis; and the ability to utilize the nursing diagnosis to determine level of care needed. Ability to use critical thinking and standards of practice. Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, previous RN experience; or LPN experience, RN license in good standing, CPR certification current.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN preferred; previous experience in a correctional environment, adolescent/pediatrics or ambulatory care experience. Basic knowledge of electronic record keeping. CPR for Healthcare provider; First Aid and AED.

Special Requirements

A pre-employment drug screen and background investigation are required. A valid Virginia driver’s license may be required by the date of employment.
