Job Description

Patrick Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the Counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Responsibilities: We are seeking applicants for the position of Dean of Student Success and Enrollment Services This position is a 12-month administrative appointment.The Dean of Student Success and Enrollment Services reports directly to the Vice President of Academic and Student Success Services. As a member of the Academic Council, this position will plan, organize, develop, supervise, and maintain comprehensive student success and enrollment services programming within the mission of Patrick Henry Community College and will ensure compliance within the respective frameworks of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), and SACSCOC. The position reports to the Academic Vice President for all areas and initiatives related to enrollment management, recruiting, student success, advising, and campus life.
• • Ensure that all student success and enrollment services initiatives are compliant with VCCS, SCHEV, and SACSCOC guidelines.
• Provide personal, social, and academic advising to students.
• Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of supervisory staff in the areas of Enrollment Services and Student Success including the following: Coordinator of Admissions and Accelerated Learning, Coordinator of Financial Aid & Veterans Services; Coordinator of Placement Testing; Advisors; Registrar; Director of Student Support Services; Director of the Student Success Center; Director of TRIO programs; Coordinator of Campus Life; Coordinator of Recruitment
• Serve in a supervisory capacity for the following areas and initiatives: Admissions, Financial Aid/Veterans Services; Placement Testing; Advising and Registration; Student Academic Records, Accelerated Learning; Financial Aid; Student Support Services; disability Services; Middle College; Great Expectations; Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative; College Success Coaches; Patriot Promise; Patriot Pantry; Shared Services Distance Learning; Upward Bound; Upward Bound Math/Science; MHC After 3; Talent Search; Campus Life; Recruitment
• Approve requests for leave, requisitions, and purchase orders for Enrollment Services and Student Success personnel.
• Serve as the institutional contact for student discipline and apply appropriate local and state policies in regarding to relevant student infractions.
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate records as related to areas of responsibility.
• Recommend an annual budget and administer budget in adherence to college and VCCS policies and procedures.
• Annually ensure that institutional catalog accurately reflects local, state, and national policy guidelines related to Enrollment Services and Student Success.
• Work with the Planning and Evaluation Committee to periodically evaluate the effectiveness of unit activities.
• Provide input into the strategic planning process as related to Enrollment Services and Student Success areas and initiatives.
• Coordinate with the Marketing and Public Relations department to develop appropriate fliers, brochures, and bulletins describing department services and initiatives.
• Complete any special duties, projects, and initiatives as directed by the VP of Academic and Student Services.

Hiring Range: $67,932 – $99,109, based on qualifications and experience; plus excellent benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications


Master’s degree, preferably in higher education leadership, education, or a related field.

Budget experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in writing, implementing and producing reports for grants
• Understanding of compliance guidelines related to VCCS, SCHEV, and SACSCOC
• Demonstrated understanding of the needs of underserved student populations
• Proven team building skills
• Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission
• Experience with dual enrollment policies and procedures
• Experience with local and community partners in regards to providing emergency student assistance
