Job Description

The Commonwealth Center for Children & Adolescents (CCCA) is Virginia’s only public acute psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents. CCCA serves youngsters with a variety of serious psychiatric and behavioral difficulties from across the Commonwealth. Treatment is provided by multidisciplinary teams in a relationship-based, collaborative, trauma-informed treatment model of care. The facility is located in a vibrant town in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns. The mission of CCCA is to provide high quality acute psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, and intensive short-term treatment that empowers children and their families to make developmentally appropriate choices and that strengthens children’s hope, resilience and self esteem. Responsibilities include direct delivery of patient care according to individual treatment plans and working collaboratively with Direct Care Staff. Skills in clinical problem solving and patient management with proficiency in verbal and written communication required. The RNs selected will be oriented by RN colleagues to include an RN Mentor and an RN Supervisor. Must attend a two week orientation. CCCA is seeking to build the base of Part Time and PRN Registered Nurses. We offer a competitive hourly wage , great work environment and flexibility with orientation scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires graduation from an accredited nursing program and eligibility for or current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state. Effective communication both verbal & written. Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team process. Ability to lead educational groups beneficial. Ability to assess, plan, implement, & evaluate patient care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, and physical, psychological, & social needs of the psychiatric adolescent or child is essential. Knowledge of lab values for children & adolescents beneficial. Basic computer skills required. Walking and/or standing for up to eight (8) hours or more, bending & lifting, ability to use TOVA techniques are essential elements required of the role. The selected RNs will receive TOVA Training during the orientation process.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with children and in the field of psychiatric nursing preferred. Ability to apply knowledge to meet child & adolescent needs in an inpatient psychiatric setting is desired. Bi-lingual abilities desired; Spanish or Sign Language preferred.
