Job Description

REPOSTEDPREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT REAPPLY. Process multiple payrolls for Thomas Nelson Community College. Work collaboratively to assist with auditing and reconciling VRS reports. Process year end and quarterly reports independently. Work collaboratively to accurately process employee leave accounting records. May assist with counseling employees on available benefits and inform employees on benefit changes. Assist with the administration of the Virginia Sickness and Disability program, the Workers’ Compensation Program and the Return to Work program for the college.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or a combination of training and experience. Strong experience in payroll processing to include: experience accurately reconciling reports, identifying discrepancies and taking corrective action within the established deadlines. Demonstrated knowledge of current accounting principles, practices and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to various levels of management. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to apply current state and federal tax laws. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply payroll and benefit related policies and procedures. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and computerize data. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Must be able to work with multiple payrolls and to accurately balance before the deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Substantial knowledge of all aspects of payroll taxes and federal and state wage/labor laws. General knowledge of employee benefits and employment practices. Must be able to work at all campus locations. Criminal history and other background checks will be required of the finalist candidate for the position. Satisfactory reference and background checks are a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Payroll and benefit processing experience in higher education institution. Knowledge of the State of Virginia payroll and benefit processing automated systems. Knowledge of the State of Virginia human resources policies and procedures. Extensive payroll experience is preferred. Experience with Leave Liability end of year reporting. Experience processing payroll in PeopleSoft. Experience processing payrolls using the Commonwealth. Integrated Payroll/Personnel System (CIPPS).
