Job Description

Piedmont Virginia Community College is accepting applications for a nine-month Radiography faculty position with clinical coordinator responsibilities for the following advanced medical imaging programs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), and Mammography). Employment will begin early Spring 2018 semester. This position is a nine-month faculty appointment with a teaching/clinical coordination load of 15 credits per semester, which may include day, evening, and weekend sections, on- and off-campus sections, and distance learning sections.

The position will include the overseeing of all clinical affiliate sites for the Radiography-Advanced Medical Imaging programs. The coordinator will work directly with the Radiography Program Director and Division Dean, and will be responsible for the following:

  • Creating and management of clinical schedules for student rotations
  • Teaching Face to Face and possibly online/hybrid courses
  • Serve as a liaison at clinical affiliate sites between clinical staff and PVCC students enrolled in the Radiography program
  • Support the Radiography program director is all aspects of administration of the program

In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on division and college-wide committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to: institutional effectiveness activities, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program development and evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty members are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to imaging sciences or education, current ARRT licensure in Radiography, as well as certifications in two of the following areas: Mammography, CT, or MRI. Additionally, two years of teaching experience or occupational experience in the radiography field. Also required is a strong commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, students, and teaching in a community college, commitment to academic advisement and mentoring of students, and ability to teach during day, evening, and weekend hours and travel to locations within Central Virginia, and ability to use current and emerging instructional technologies and distance learning technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in a field related to imaging sciences or education, experience with online teaching, teaching experience in the community college setting.

Special Requirements

In addition to the job functions noted above, essential job functions of full-time faculty include: Holding 10 office hours weekly, preparing and distributing a syllabus to all students consistent with the course of study for each course taught, preparing grade reports for each course taught, recommending appropriate texts and support materials for each course taught, assisting in the requisition of adequate instructional equipment and supplies, regularly reviewing library collection within faculty discipline, and evaluating course instruction in accordance with established policy.

Full-time faculty also advise students in course selection and curricular requirements, maintain attendance records and confer with students who display excessive absenteeism or an inclination to withdraw from a course, confer with students who display poor academic performance, participate when applicable and practical in co-curricular activities, prepare and follow an Individual Development and Performance Plan (IDPP), and maintain a positive, professional relationship with colleagues, supervisors, students, and the community.

Full-time faculty are expected to participate in faculty and curriculum meetings, attend faculty workshops, assist with registration, prepare textbook orders, assist in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of equipment assigned for use in instruction, work with colleagues to promote retention of students, incorporate current and emerging instructional technologies into classroom instruction, work with colleagues to secure external financial and/or physical resources (e.g., grant writing, equipment), adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of the college and the Virginia Community College system, and perform other related duties as assigned.
