Job Description

Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH), located in Burkeville, Virginia is seeking to fill the Assistant Unit Coordinator position. The position will provide administrative and clinical support to the Unit Coordinators, Recovery Team and patients while providing professional nursing care and supervision of nursing staff on the units 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each unit has an average patient census of 16-40 patients. This position requires considerable knowledge of geriatric and psychiatric/mental health nursing; supervisory/administrative principles and practices; basic budgeting and accounting; and legal requirements affecting Nursing services. Must have ability to assess a changing patient environment and manage the therapeutic milieu; considerable skills in advanced nursing procedures and professional nursing techniques and devices used in providing services to elderly acute chronic mentally ill patients at PGH.

Minimum Qualifications

-The selected candidates must be licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing as an RN with graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Experience with gero-psychiatric patients.

- Experience in patient unit recovery program implementation and management.

-Current experience in professional nursing which includes some leadership and charge responsibilities.

-Proficient communication skills both written and verbally. Attention to detail, problem solving, and decision making.

-Experience working both independently and collaboratively to evaluate clinical program and staff performance, to develop and refine standards of care, and to establish operational procedures and priorities.

Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

-American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider Required.

-This position requires some shift work and the ability to work overtime hours when required; may be exposed to aggressive gero-psychiatric patients.

Preferred Qualifications

-BSN is preferred.
-Previous leadership experience

- Considerable Nursing Management experience.
-PGH or similar institution experience preferred
