Job Description

Pittsylvania/Danville Health District (PDHD) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is seeking a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to educate and promote breastfeeding to the WIC population about the advantages of breastfeeding and to increase the duration of breastfeeding. This incumbent will work with WIC only pregnant and breastfeeding participants individually and in groups or classes. Contacts each pregnant and breastfeeding participant to discuss breastfeeding progress and/or issues. This person will provide continued education and support on maintaining a positive breastfeeding relationship with their infant

Minimum Qualifications

Experience educating individuals, groups and/or classes about breastfeeding and nutrition prenatal and postnatal. Comfortable speaking to individuals about breastfeeding and nutrition.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferably an individual who has breastfed an infant at least 6 months. Breastfeeding and nutrition experience preferred. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
