Job Description

The Pittsylvania-Danville and Southside Health Districts seek a Certified Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical patient care and supportive public health services for the District’s Family Planning Program, Sexually Transmitted Infection Program (STI), Every Women’s Life (EWL), and other adult wellness/screening clinics.. The Districts serve the City of Danville and counties of Pittsylvania, Mecklenburg, Halifax, and Brunswick. Predominant caseload assignment is to provide care for Family Planning, Communicable Disease, EWL, and STI service areas. Family Nurse Practitioner preferred.
This nurse practitioner position performs the following:
Diagnosis and treat conditions in accordance with established protocols and in the absence of a physician t health department clinics; Family Planning (FP), Every Woman’s Life (EWL), and Communicable and Sexually Transmitted Infection clinics(STI). Interviews patients to obtain health history; performs physical examinations and diagnostic procedures; orders, interprets, and evaluates tests to identify patients’ clinical problems and health needs; records physical findings and develops care plans; initiates treatment in the absence of a physician; initiates referrals and consultations; formulates diagnosis based on patient’s condition and clinical findings; counsels patients in health care management; counsels and provides information to patients regarding all methods of contraception. Prescribes medications and all contraceptives in accordance with protocols, practice agreement, and prescriptive authority. Inserts, removes, and assesses complications from contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices (IUD’s).

Minimum Qualifications

Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and Board Certification/licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess CPR Health Care Provider Certification and possess a valid Driver’s License. Considerable knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning and execution in the area of certification, preferably including Family Planning, STD/STI, and EWL at a minimum. Considerable skill in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the area of certification. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, document findings, recognize legal limits in practice, and to obtain and interpret clinical data.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer experience in the fields of, family planning, communicable diseases, and sexually transmitted diseases/infections. Knowledge and experience is use of computers and computer applications preferred. Bilingual/multilingual preferred.
