Job Description

The Virginia Industries for the Blind is an enterprise division within DBVI. VIB is an accredited affiliate of the National Industries for the Blind and a manufacturer and distributor of products and services provided under the provisions of the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act and the Ability One Program.

Must be capable of driving for multiple hours during two different morning/evening shifts. On all types of roads and highways, including interstate highways, in all types of weather and lighting conditions. Driving a twelve passenger bus for the safe transport of blind and visually impaired Virginia Industries for the Blind employees. Driving is in both daylight and nighttime hours, in all weather conditions. Fuels vehicle and provides fuel receipts to VIB supervisor responsible for state car record keeping. Demonstrated ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have valid Virginia driver’s license; Driver’s license must be free of points for moving offences. No history of major driving offences such as DUI or reckless driving. Must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment by state and federal background check. High school diploma, GED or equivalent literacy skills sufficient to read agency forms and documents, complete agency forms and other paperwork, and read these out loud to individuals who are blind and vision impaired. Handwriting must be legible. Must be able to drive a standard transmission vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer previous experience driving passenger vehicles including sedans, SUVS, and vans.

Prefer experience working with persons with disabilities.
