Conditions of employment for the candidate of choice include: participation in the Commonwealth’s direct deposit program, a fingerprint based criminal history check, and completion of computer security training. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must possess the following abilities: a) to lift 30 – 35 pounds and, b) to use privately-owned vehicle to commute to work. Job Description

This sworn position enforces all applicable Virginia statutes, federal laws, and the rules and regulations of the 13 health regulatory boards by: independently conducting the initial review, evaluation and timely processing of a variety of complaints of alleged violations against health care practitioners licensed, certified or registered by the 13 health regulatory boards of the Department of Health Professions in order to safeguard the lives, health, and safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth and by clearly communicating the results of the case intake process.

Minimum Qualifications

· Considerable critical thinking skills and ability to assess complex data for possible violations of policy, law or regulation, and the ability to rapidly and accurately communicate the results of the assessment;
· Knowledge, skills and abilities related to investigative techniques to include interviewing, data collection and the analysis of complex data, records and reports;
· Comprehensive knowledge of multidisciplinary health care practices and demonstrated ability to interpret laws and regulations;
· Strong self-direction/motivation with excellent organizational skills and demonstrated abilities to effectively and independently manage multiple assignments and meet multiple deadlines;
· Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to maintain confidentiality and to work effectively as a member of a team;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including impartiality and objectivity with a demonstrated ability to compose clear and concise verbal and written assessment results/reports;
· Skill in the use of a personal computer with standard office software for report writing, information exchange, research, and data management.
· A degree from an accredited college or university in a health science or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience to perform the duties of the position.
· Experience in health care practice.
· A working knowledge of health care/medical terminology in order to interpret health care records and communicate with health care professionals and of federal or state health care laws and regulations.
· Investigative experience.

Preferred Qualifications

·Prior regulatory work experience;
· A degree from an accredited college or university in a health science;
· Licensed or eligible for licensure or certification as a health care provider in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
· Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations governing health care professionals and health care delivery;
· Experience independently conducting comprehensive investigations/inspections requiring the interpretation of healthcare laws/regulations;
· Prior experience taking and assessing consumer complaints, both verbally and written, and clearly communicating the results in an efficient and accurate manner.
