Job Description

Norfolk State University, NSU is a Historically Black University located in the city of Norfolk, Virginia.

The Norfolk State campus enrollment is approximately 6,000 students, and the campus has a rich tradition of undergraduate teaching and research.

NSU now features a growing focus on emerging areas in science and technology, and the Electronics Engineering as a separate program was established in 2002.

Today, Electrical/Electronics Engineering program offers a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and the Electrical/Electronics Engineering faculty supports the Ph.D., degree in Materials Science and Engineering program.

The successful candidate will join a cohesive faculty group in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and be responsible for full participation in the management and oversight of education program offerings for the undergraduate program.

The Assistant/Associate Professor responsibilities follows:

1. Teach undergraduate courses in Electrical/Electronics engineering.

2. Advise and mentor undergraduate students.

3. Conduct funded research and advise and mentor graduate students.

4. Participate in departmental activities related to the future growth and direction of the Engineering program.

5. Participate in curricula development, review, revision, and program
effectiveness.

6. Serve on committees at the department, school and university levels.

7. Participate in research and other scholarly activities.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated ability to teach electrical circuits, and their labs, digital and analog electronics networks, Microelectronics, System Science and Controls or signal and system engineering.

2. Demonstrated experience and commitment to academic excellence in teaching and scholarly activity.

3. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student body audience, verbally and in writing, with emphasis applied to a commitment to diversity.

4. Demonstrated ability to advise, mentor and tutor students.

5. Demonstrated experience in the development of curricula.

6. Must possess a Ph.D. in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Considerable record of accomplishment of teaching, researching, scholarly activity and mentoring.
