GENEDGE Alliance is Virginia’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Center, and is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology MEP network. GENEDGE Alliance is seeking a talented, self-motivated professional to join our statewide network of industrial consultants. This position provides service to clients statewide and will be based in Blacksburg, VA to enable focus on clients in southwest and southern Virginia.
the Vice President, Industrial Regional Development is a senior executive responsible for

• Developing and directing a statewide network of regional growth consultants charged with developing and delivering on trusted advisor relationships with industrial companies and regional economic development stakeholders.
• Finding and assessing new, strategic level, innovation, growth and/or improvement opportunities
• Developing work proposals and closing major new business contracts
• Leading and managing significant statewide and regional growth opportunities for targeted industrial companies and clusters.

• The primary responsibility is to lead the analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of client projects and relationships at the corporate level.
• They work with client executives to discuss & develop strategic engagements, project targets, & then work to meet expectations.
• They understand and stay current with Commonwealth of VA economic development strategies.
• They engage with the GENEDGE BOT, members of the General Assembly, Congressional leaders, the Governor’s office, VEDP, Go VA, regional economic developers on strategic and operational topics.
• They discuss and develop strategies with teammates, direct and dotted line reports to deliver the best solutions for the projects.
• They follow market trends to continue to develop the GENEDGE brand and to make improvements to existing products and services.
• They must network with clients, partners and referral sources to build relationships and sustain them.
• They must provide oversight for developing business proposals and assist in presenting them to clients and prospects.
• They manage programmatic and project efforts with multiple resources & project deliveries as part of an overarching effort.
• They also deliver presentations and workshops to develop and inform leads and prospects.
• They provide oversight for execution of research as required on business, technology and market trends and incorporate those into product development and delivery strategies for GENEDGE.
• Data collection and dissemination on different aspects of industry is also part of the job which helps the consultant advise a client and maximize the business performance of the client.
• They account for their program & project time and deliverables to trigger billing as required.
• They support administrative requirements to assure proper project management, closure, and impact collection and reporting.
• They stay current with existing practices and develop skills for new and improved practices.

The VP works directly with senior leaders in manufacturing, engineering and technology companies as well as government and economic development groups. Provides leadership for a group of growth consultants acting as the primary client relationship managers in specific regions across Virginia. Develops targeted assistance programs for specific segments of the market which require investment by interested parties to reduce the cost of direct service. She / he Is the prime mover for achieving market penetration goals and client revenues through direct services. Provides leadership for marketing on dotted line basis to assure that linkage between client facing programs and GENEDGE drives a compelling set of value propositions. Oversight for client delivery on assessment and strategic initiatives delivered through direct reports. May include multiple resources, third party and teaming partners for large scale programs and projects. Engages with university based student intern teams typically managed by regional growth consultants. The VP is a member of the GENEDGE leadership team and will interface with state, local, federal and board stakeholders routinely. The position requires significant overnight travel, typically within Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

• A BS degree in an engineering or business discipline
• Progressively responsible experience in manufacturing management, technical leadership, strategic consulting, economic development or other similar functions
• A working knowledge of key processes such as product development, financial analysis/cost accounting, industrial marketing/sales, logistics/purchasing, quality systems, operations
• Certification and proven experience in Operational Excellence (e.g. Lean Six Sigma)
Significant consulting or direct customer facing experience
• They must have efficient project management combined with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• They must have demonstrated executive engagement and facilitation at the corporate level.
• They possess significant consulting or direct customer facing experience.
• Possess proven leadership of large scale economic development initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
• They must have highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• They must be confident, outgoing and adaptable to change.
• They must be versatile and deal with clients from various walks of life, including small team leadership and participation in strategic engagements at the leadership level [business owner, President].
• They need to know about computers, web conferencing, cloud computing and follow the latest in technology.
• Long hours are quite common, and therefore the VP of Industrial Development must be able to deal with stress and work under pressure.
• They also need to have good presentation skills.

• Applicants must also currently possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree or equivalent is desirable

At least 10 years of progressively greater expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Internal / external management consulting experience
• Experience with the military and DOD supply chain
• Track record of strategic, innovation, product development and / or supply chain consulting

Special Requirements
